Illustration of Hierarchy for HIP

This animation illustrates the domains for HIP and is based on the data in Table I of a 1978 paper by George Rose. HIP is the chromatin high potential iron protein, with pdb code 1HIP. The protein has 85 residues, and the domains are:

First Cut:
Residues 1-41 (red balls in the animation) and Residues 42-85 (green balls in the animation)
Second Cut:
1-41 is in turn subdivided as 1-20 and 21-41
42-85 is in turn subdivided as 42-61and 62-85.
